Human Rights in the International Bill

Abstract

The issue of human rights is a common concern of every human being in society, where the behavior of governments and states is evaluated upon the rights and freedoms achieved for their people, or the transgressions and violations thereof, and because ensuring the respect and promotion of human rights is one of the most important purposes of the United Nations. In this relation, the United Nations, since its inception, has been concerned with the issue of human rights, and the General Assembly has adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, putting the first building block in the International Bill of Human Rights, followed by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the two protocols attached to them, to complete the construction of the International Bill of Human Rights.

From this standpoint, the importance and problematic of the study lies in its attempt to review human rights in the International Bill, by presenting and analyzing their content and stating the binding force of the declaration and the two covenants. Accordingly, the objectives of the study are represented in its attempt to explain the nature of human rights, their sources in the international law, and the extent of states’ commitment to them. The content of the study included a preliminary introduction and three demands from which several conclusions and recommendations were drawn.
